One month ago today we were called to the American Family Children’s Hospital. Tessa was diagnosed with Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia, a form of AML most commonly associated with Down syndrome. Although we knew that that day would eventually come, it still shattered our world. We are finishing up our last few days at home and preparing for the continuation of treatment. She will be back at the hospital tomorrow for a bone marrow biopsy and a spinal tap, and we will return (hopefully sometime later this week) for the beginning of the next round of chemotherapy.
Although Tessa is doing quite well despite all else, she still has a long fight ahead of her. We are positive, however, that Tessa will continue to conquer this horrible disease with great strength and courage.
